Equifax, one of the largest credit reporting agencies in the United States, may have exposed personal information that belonged to over 143 million Americans. This is nearly half of the entire U.S population.
This catastrophe started on July 29,2017. Hackers released private information including social security numbers, addresses, birthdays, and some driver’s license numbers. Top executives in the company sold Equifax soon after the breach was discovered. However, hackers were primarily looking for social security numbers. If you believe that you were affected in any sort of way, go to this website: hhtps://www.equifax.com/personal/ When you sign up on Equifax, please watch for imposer scams.
NBC News states, ” An Equifax representative told NBC News the three executives sold a “small percentage” of their shares.” This all went down when there was a flaw in a tool called Apache Struts made to build web applications. When this problem with Apache was disclosed, a cybersecurity arm of the U.S. Department of Homeland security, US-CERT found the hole and patched it.
